Beauty Facts: How Many Are Actually False
By admin | August 13, 2009
We’ve all heard it – beauty facts that can help you look beautiful without much effort. You’ve heard some of them from your mother, your grandmother, your girlfriends or pretty much anybody, giving you advice on how to look your best by learning more about beauty tricks, myths and truths. Here are some of the beauty “facts” that are actually only myths.
Shaving makes body hair darker/longer/thicker
Shaving makes your body hair grow darker/longer/thicker every time you shave. This is a classic beauty fact that is not true. Your body hair is thickest right under the skin, and it’s thinnest, therefore might seem lighter, on your skin. While you shave, you cut the thinnest parts of your body hair, and it might seem that the growing hair comes out much darker and thicker.
Vaseline makes you look younger
It is believed that Marilyn Monroe used Vaseline every night to make her skin beautiful and youthful. Many people believe that it actually helps your skin feel tighter, and virtually pore-less. Vaseline does keep the skin moisturized, but it’s too heavy for skin, especially if used daily. It’s much better to clean your face thoroughly every day, enjoy diet with lots of fruit and vegetables, drink plenty of water to keep skin hydrated and exercise regularly.
Anti-cellulite creams erase cellulite
Many women spend a fortune every few months to buy expensive creams that might help them get rid of cellulite. But, experts warn, no matter how expensive cream is, you should take everything it says with a grain of salt. Anti-cellulite creams do help the skin feel somewhat tighter, but the effect is very short-term. It’s much better and healthier to change your diet to include plenty of vegetables and fruits, exercise at least 3-4 times per week and drink at about eight 8 ounces (1.9 litres) of water per day.
No sun – no sunscreen
Basically, this is far, far from the truth and very dangerous for your body and skin. Even on a cloudy day, your skin needs to be protected from damaging UV rays. While you don’t need a sunscreen with with a SPF higher than 50, you do need a quality product that will keep damaging rays away from your skin. Don’tbe cheap with sunscreen – put generous amounts on every 2 hours.
Toothpaste will clear acne
This is another well spread beauty fact that isn’t true. It is believed that putting small amounts of toothpaste on acne can help clear and remove them completely. Dermatologists warn that not only this is not true, but can actually harm your skin. Toothpaste should be used on your teeth, not your face. It dries and irritates skin.
Lemon juice is great for lightening hair
This beauty fact is actually a fact; lemon juice combined with sun exposure can slightly lighten your hair. But, there’s a catch – lemon juice will also dry and damage your hair. So, it’s best to go to a professional and let them lighten your hair safely, without the risk of damaging your locks too much.
