10 Great Tricks That Will Save You Money

By admin | August 13, 2009

Let’s be honest – we got hit with one of the worst recessions in the history and we need to be frugal. Many of us found some ways to save few bucks because every dollar counts. And I mean, every dollar counts. Here are 10 great  tricks that will save you money you absolutely need to know!

1. Buy In Bulk

This is a great way to save, and it doesn’t take a lot of planning or sacrificing. I recommend buying your groceries weekly and in bulk. This way, you’ll get to save in two ways: first, always make a list for your weekly trips to the grocery store. This way you’ll know exactly what to buy, and you won’t buy by impulse. Secondly, you will save when buying in bulk. Grocery stores already give out discounts for buying in bulk.

2. Make Your Own Lunch

At work, every day for lunch you are likely to spend a lot of money; most people spend about $10 daily. If you add it all up, it comes down to $200 monthly only for lunch. We didn’t count coffee, teas or candies you get in the vending machine. If you prepare your own lunch at least 2 times per week, you’ll save $80.

3. Get Rid Of Credit Card Debt

This is probably one thing that singularly costs a lot of money. Average Americans today have about 10 credit cards in their wallet. If you count in all the interest, you are losing a lot of money. The best thing is to try and slowly reduce your credit card debt and get rid of multiple credit cards.

4. Save On Dinners Out

One of my favorites that doesn’t cause too much pain. Instead of going out for breakfast/lunch/dinner 3-4 times per week, you could enjoy that only once a week and make it special for yourself and your family. If you take that average dinner costs about $15+ plus tip, reducing your dining out to once a week could save you about $180+ plus tips.

5. Use Coupons

This one is actually very easy. A lot of magazines and grocery stores offer great coupons that will save you a lot of  money.

6. Carpooling

This might be a little tough for some people, but it’s a great way to socialize and save money on ever-growing gas prices. If you have family members, neighbours or friends who work nearby, you should use that situation and share a car. Sharing costs with somebody else will definitely save you big bucks.

7. Look For Sales When Buying Clothes

Why pay full price when you can get the same piece of clothing for at least 30% off? Good thinking, right? A lot of clothing stores have sales quite often and this gives you the opportunity to save, all while buying fabulous. The only thing you need is patience; believe me, it’s worth it.

8. Save On Electricity

All you need to do is pay attention to the electricity consumption in your home. Turn off the light if you don’t need it, don’t have your TV on if you’re not watching etc. Pretty simple, and you’ll see the savings every month.

9. Save Coins

Every time you use cash, your change is most likely to be coins. Save those coins, don’t give them out; find a place to keep them, and after few months you’ll be surprised to see how much money you’ll see.

10. Better Price On Insurance

When you add together how much insurance you pay for your house, car etc. you might get hit in the head. A lot of insurance companies today offer bundle packages; when you bundle your insurance rates together, you might ask for an opportunity to save. Ask, you have nothing to lose.
