Children can suffer from stress

By admin | November 18, 2007

Is you child suffering from stress?

Some people think that stress can only affect adults. But they are wrong. Children are not just happy, little careless people with nothing to worry about.

Remember when you were a child. Did your problems seem serious to you? Did the anxiety you felt as a child any different from anxiety you felt later in your life(ie. adulthood)?

There are many factors that can make the life of your child stressful, from peer pressure to moving one place to another.

You should observe your child with great care to make sure it’s not under stress. Because children suffering from stress must be treated properly. The good news is that you can help a lot.

Show your support

Ask your child questions like ‘how do you feel?’, ‘is there anything new in school?’,or ‘ how do you get along with your friends?’. Don’t pressure your child, just show that you are there. Don’t add pressure, relive it.

Show interest for their problems, let them feel your support, you may not be aware how much does it help, but always show that you are there.

Lead by example

Children often cope with stress in the same way you their parents do. And they can sense that you are under stress.

You don’t have to tell them that you might be fired from your job, or that a member of your family is seriously ill they , children will notice that.

They might not understand the reasons behind your stress but they will feel that you are under stress.

If you like to lit up a cigarette, or have a drink when under stress your children will develop the same mechanism for coping with stress.

Instead lead by example, speak about the problems and their solutions. Try to relax. Don’t accuse or blame, search for solutions.
