By admin | November 17, 2007

self imageA person’s self image is a which is a mixture of opinions, based on person’s personal experience or by internalizing the judgments of others. Self image is how you see yourself in relation to others. Questions included are:

- Am I attractive?
- Am I smart?

- Am I fat?
- Am I strong?
Simple definition of one’s self image is the answer to one question: ” What do I think people think about me?”
HEALTHY SELF IMAGE

Self image can be either healthy or unhealthy. The formation of a healthy self image can be challenging for an individual, especially when family, peers, community, or the general society issues very negative evaluations of a person that happen to be inaccurate. The consequences can be severe for the individual, who might develop low self feelings. With these low feelings about themselves, a depression or suicide is also possible. Good and healthy self image can lead to one’s overall mental and phyisical improvement. Doing things you like and enjoy can help you get healthier self image. Hobbies, activities you’re good at also develops good self esteem.
If you have a poor self opinion your self esteem will be low. Self esteem focuses on how you feel about yourself. Image is about how you see yourself and how you believe others see you. They are, as you can see, closely connected, but still very different.

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR SELF IMAGE

You’re probably wondering how you can improve the way you see yourself. Here are some tips and advices:
1. List things you like about yourself – include appearance, personality and skills
2. Change negative thoughts to positive ones by focusing on the positive ones
3. Remember good things people have said about you and note them down if they will make you feel better

4. Make any changes you think would help you for example clothes, appearance, hair style, behaviour in certain situations
5. Accept things about yourself that are true and learn to think about them in a positive way, not bad way
Having a more positive attitude can make you open to a world of physical changes. In addition to changing your way of thinking, you can also change your behavior and abilities by learning new skills. This can help you a lot with your self image and also with your self esteem. If you always wanted to learn how to cook better, take a cooking class. You can cook for yourself, your family and friends. They will appreciate your new skills and you will automatically feel better.

But the thing is, you play a huge part in your happiness, and you can greatly increase it by taking action and changing your attitude toward yourself. You are responsible for yourself. Not your friends or family. You create your world and everything around it. Make sure you do a good job!
