Your baby’s first two months
By admin | November 16, 2007
No matter how fragile and sensitive they might seem to you, be sure that you will fulfill your baby’s primary needs – to be loved and secure. Don’t be afraid to hold your baby as much as you can – they will feel your love.
Having a newborn baby is a wonderful experience. Babies and their first few months are a true joy for parents.
THIS MONTH’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- While laying on their belly, babies can hold their little heads in the air for a short period of time.
- You baby can focus on your face.
- Your baby can follow objects on the distance of about 6 inches.
But, you need to realize that every baby is unique, and if your baby can’t do these things, it doesn’t mean there’s something wrong. Give your little one time and plenty of love!
YOUR BABY’S PRIMITIVE REFLEXES
When the baby is born, lot of primitive reflexes are part of it’s behavior. After 2-6 months. these reflexes will completely disappear. But, if they aren’t present, that can be a sign of a problem.
1. Reflex of holding on to everything
If you put your finger on baby’s palm, the baby will hold it strong. This reflex is present on toes, too.
2. Moore’s reflex
When the baby is afraid of a sudden loud noise, it will open its arms and legs, like it’s holding and hugging air. Baby will cry, too.
3. Reflex of searching for mother’s breast
If you touch your baby’s cheek or lips, the baby will turn it’s head on that side, and try to catch your finger ( a nipple ) and start to suckle it.
4. “Walking” reflex
If you take your baby under its arms, your baby will automatically start “walking”, by putting on leg in front of another.
SENSE DEVELOPMENT
In the first month of life, your baby will sense different symphony of senses. These senses can make them happy, sad, afraid or excited.
1. Sight
Your baby is now shortsighted. It can focus the best on objects about 4-7 inches away. Objects with strong black and white lines will have their attention. Make sure that the colors are not too bright, because that can damage your baby’s eyes. Now your baby can even follow you around in the room without any difficulties.
2. Hearing
Your baby knows your voice and reacts by calming down and acting happy and excited. Talk to your newborn while you’re feeding it, bathing or changing clothes. Your words will be your baby’s first weapon of communication. You are the one who will pass on the skill of talking and listening. Also, you will find out that your baby likes music – play lullabies during the day, nap time and before bedtime so your little one can relax.
3. Touch
Your little one reacts on your touch. Use every possible opportunity to be close to your newborn baby – while feeding, changing or playing. Also, react on baby’s cry. That will help the newborn to understand that you’re there to take care of it.

Zzzzzzzzzz….
During the first month, your baby will sleep, sleep and sleep. Newborns often sleep around 15-18 hours per day. Although you may hope that these sleeping hours will be during nights, don’t be that sure. One of the ways to get more sleep at night is to wake up your little bundle of joy after sleeping 3-4 hours during day.
Dinner time!
Your baby already senses when is eating time. If you breastfeed, you will probably need to feed your baby every 2-3 hours. You’ll know that your baby is full when it’s happy after the meal or when you need to change the diapers often.
If you’re feeding your newborn with baby formulas, plan to feed it every 3-4 hours.
Scientists agree that breastfeeding is the best choice for your little one. It has the best nutrition and helps your baby’s mental and physical growth.
YOUR TWO MONTH BUNDLE OF JOY
Your two month old baby is beginning to pay more attention to the world around it.But it likes the sound of your voice best, like all two month old babies. Can you notice how is your baby following your voice around the room? Change your position and you will see your two month old baby reacting. It will be fascinated by the different tones of your voice when you’re singing, raising your voice or quietly cooing. Your two month old cooer might even react by cooing to you.
Accomplishments of the second month
- Can keep its little head up
- Your baby can lift it’s chest using it’s arms
- Will often return a smile
- Reacts to noise of any kind
- It can coo
- Can notice very small objects
- Your Baby might even laugh loudly
Four ways you can sharpen the senses of your two month old baby
- Add some color. Hang a colorful toy above your baby’s crib.
- While playing with your baby turn on some lively music. If you baby gets upset calm it down
- Pay attention to your baby so you can see whats your baby reacting to and what captures it’s attention
- Cuddle with your baby. Don’t become obsessed with you baby’s growth. Your two month old cooer needs your love and your care.
FOUR WAYS WHY YOUR BABY IS NERVOUS
1. Colics – there are approximately around 10-20% babies suffering from colic. Colic makes babies cry for a long time, and that might be very hard for parents. You will recognize it when you hear it because they make high-pitch noise and screaming which is not connected with wet diapers or hunger. Babies suffering from colic usually cry on afternoons and in the evening more than in the morning.
2. Constipation – your baby’s stool should be soft. If it’s hard and dry or irregular, your baby might be suffering from constipation. You should go and see a pediatrician and ask what would help you little one.
3. Bloated tummy – good way to avoid bloating with children fed with baby formulas is to add more formula than what your baby usually eats. This way you will stop suckling empty bottle, and entering air in intestines.
4. Food intolerance – your nervous baby might be lactose intolerant. Babies are born with immature digest system which develops withing first 4-6 moths. If your baby shows any kind of unusual behavior after feeding, you should go and talk to baby’s doctor.
