Is Character Changing During Lifetime?

By admin | November 16, 2007

changing character lifetimeAmerican scientists have discovered that human character remains changing during lifetime. Before it was believed that one’s character was fully developed by the time they reach 30 years of age. Now, new researches prove the opposite.
Old saying “the older, the wiser” might be true! Scientific magazine, ” New Scientist” has new information that might change the way people think.
Stamford College, CA examined 130,000 people and their 5 big characteristics: conscientiousness, complacence, neuroticism, openness and friendliness.

Character changes are not only possible in childhood and teenage years. Scientists proved that people changed after their teenager years.
Some of those character changes are very big.
“We found different patterns of character changing in individuals”, Srivastava, one of the scientists said. People get better and nicer as the years pass, and they become more nurturing and have more understanding.
They also discovered that neuroticism lowers as women get older, but act different. Also, openness is lowering with both sexes as they grow older.
Conscientiousness and organizational skills are at the highest point in 20-ies, while affection and warmth comes in 30-ies.

This research can help greatly in understanding human nature, as well as our acts and behavior. This also proves that there are lot of cognitions yet to be discovered, too.
Scientists believe that changes in conscientiousness and complacence can be explained with the fact that young people, while in their 20-ies, tend to explore and search for themselves and things that make them happy.
Likewise, people in their 30-es mostly have family, career and are focused only to those parts of their life.
Discovery that character is changing during our lifetime can bring lots of material for next researches, where scientists can explore other spheres of human nature.
