What’s my dream job?
By admin | November 12, 2007
If you’re not one of those lucky people who have always known their dream career and job, then this article might help you. Finding the right job and career might be tougher than you think, although there are hundreds of them already being posted as the moment of reading this article.
People who realize that they are responsible for managing their career spend lots of time asking themselves simple, revealing questions: “What kind of work do I want to do?”, “What kind of company do I want to work for?”, “What new skills must I learn to get the right job?” In short, “How do I invent the career that’s right for me?”
Finding your true “self” in a job
First you need to do is answer the simplest question of all: what do you really enjoy to do? What makes you happy and comfortable?
It’s hard to like your job if you don’t like the field that you’re in. Most career counselors agree that finding work you’re passionate about is one of the critical factors behind career success. That’s why so many career counselors love all those diagnostic tools that measure your personality traits, skill levels, professional interests, and job potential. You can find different kinds of tests on Internet that can help you finding your true job skills and fields of interest.
But, you have to be careful about these tests. They are mostly free and can specify your “dream job“, but don’t let them tell you what to do. Their actual purpose is to give you some clues on your journey to your dream job and career. No test is accurate 100%, that’s on you to decide. And always take at least three different tests, then make notes and decide what’s your field of interest.
But there’s a big difference between understanding what kind of work you want to do and knowing the best place in which to do it.
Having a great job that you truly enjoy doing is a blessing. Making a career out of the things you like is something you are entitled to, and don’t let it go. There are people who work for 20 years in fields they don’t like – and yet, they find the courage to make a change. Doing something that you “must” do in order to afford the mortgage and food is like a burden to you. Making a change and finding a career that you care about is going to truly update your life.
Money or joy?
When it comes to earning money, you might come to a hard choice. You might be interested in a field where money doesn’t come on regular basis. When you do have enough money to do something you love and can afford it, then you can consider yourself very lucky.
But, if are struggling to make ends meet, then you have a choice – to be stuck at your dead end job that still makes money, or pursue your dream career and job that goes along with it.
Lucky you, you can choose the second option! Today, when you can choose college with classes online or after work hours, you have all doors open. Go online and research programs and certificates you need to finish in or just go to your closest college and ask them about programs they offer for people who can’t afford quitting their current job.
This way, you can get paid to do what you like! And, is there better feeling than that?
