Food and your health

Thanks to the modern scientific research and better understanding of the connection between food and health the interest for healthy food or healthy nutrition is growing.
People of today have a lot of trust in specially created food products and food supplements, money is being invested and research conducted to make these products healthier and more efficient aid in our quest for health and balance.
Vitamins and mineral are being added to many food products to promote not only their nutritional but their functional value.
They call those food products functional because the decrease risk of diseases, and therefore are on the border between food and medication.
Although it has been known for thousands of years, the philosophy of food as medication is now becoming widely accepted and implemented.
A century ago scientists believed that some diseases are caused by the lack of certain nutrients, and today we all know what the proper nutrition can do for our health and longevity.
Modern age brought a nutritional paradox. In the developed world we are living in the abundance of food yet the majority of people lack certain nutrients in their diet.
We are on the verge of obesity epidemic due to the modern way of life and and it’s up to you to decide whether you will be just another victim of bad nutrition or you are going to follow a functional diet and lead a happy and productive life.
It is necessary to view the concept of functional nutrition as a long term goal, because the effects of your nutrition today are going to be felt in years from now.

What is functional nutrition?
Functional nutrition is nutrition with a goal or a function. That goal is the promotion of your health and productivity.
But it’s not easy to set a border between industrial food products with all kinds of additions and food that’s made to promote and preserve our health.
Functional food products can be categorized according to the effects it has on certain organs and systems.
Pro biotic and antioxidant rich food products are becoming more and more popular mainly because of their scientifically proven effects on our bodies.
Recent studies have shown that most people are willing to drop their old eating habits to preserve their health and that faced the food industry with a new and difficult challenge.
And that challenge is all about finding a balance between an attractive taste, health functionality of the food product and the prices.
Nutritionist however, got another task, to explain what does it mean to find a balance between taste an the health value of those ‘new’ food products.
This is very important if we consider that the majority of non-violent deaths can be in some way or another linked with bad nutrition.
