Meditation is a stress killer

By admin | November 2, 2007

Learning to meditate can not only help you become more relaxed and focused, but will improve your immune system and therefore your overall health. All relevant studies have shown that brief sessions of meditation can reduce stress, anxiety, and help you gain much needed balance to tackle your daily problems.

If you ask what is the key to meditation the answer would be simple and short. You need to learn how to. Most people think that they know how to relax, and that they don’t have to learn. But they are wrong.

Everybody can take a half an hour a day to meditate. It’s all you need to win a war against stress. Type of meditation that you need to learn will depend on your needs. If you just want to keep your stress levels under control you don’t need to meditate five hours per day every day. All you need is two short brakes from your daily activities.

The first thing that you have to learn is how to relax. Find a comfy chair or a bed, and just lay down. You have to avoid using your muscles to support your weight. Just lay down, and relax.

You won’t be completely relaxed until you stop feeling your weight or the weight of your body part(ie. weight of your hand resting on your abdomen) .

Now lets move on to the next step – keeping your mind free of any thoughts.

This is a tricky part for many people as they will try to keep thoughts ‘out’ by ‘force’. They will fail at this because you simply can’t keep something away from your mind without thinking about it. Old bicycle. Now try not to think about an old rusty bicycle. It is not possible.

Am I right?

The trick to riding your mind of thoughts is simple, let the thoughts flow naturally, don’t concentrate on their meanings. Just let them go.

In a few minutes your mind will be free of thoughts for a brief moment. And in that moment you will feel happiness and energy. It’s a sign for you to get back to work.
