I want to gain weight!

By admin | August 31, 2007

Weight gainIt might sound strange but some of us need to gain some weight. And most of the time it’s a real need, not a mental disorder.
You should say “I want to gain weight” to yourself if your BMI (Body mass index) is bellow 18.5. You should also keep in mind that your ideal weight might not be the weight that is prescribed as ideal (ie. 22.). Maybe the ideal weight for your body is between 23-24 (BMI). It is just as important to avoid being underweight as it is being overweight. Underweight people just have a different group of health risk to cope with, and that includes conditions from anemia to osteoporosis. And you don’t want to look like a walking corps either.

Judging from the medical studies and experience it’s much easier to gain weight than to lose it, some of you may not agree but those are the facts.T o gain weight you will need two things:

1. You need to decide which is your target weight
2. You need to set a time frame for your weight gaining goal

When people try to lose weight their goal is to burn more calories than they take in. You should do the opposite – your calorie intake will be higher, then your calorie consumption.
Your first step should be to find out how much calories do you take in. Check nutrition facts of all the food you eat, and keep a diet diary. Write how much food you ate, when, and be sure to write down all the caloric values. You will use that as a reference later.
After your first step decide how much can you raise your calorie intake. Don’t double it, it will hurt your health. Keep it reasonable and be aware of your time frame. Be sure to keep track of your progress. Weigh yourself every week.

When you finish all preparation work write down ‘I want to gain weight’ on your fridge and make it visible.

To gain weight you will chose low-volume and high calorie foods. Eat at least five times a day, use snacks and shakes every time you can, don’t eat to much sugar or fat, it can damage your health. Drink high calorie liquids like chocolate milk. But the most important thing is – be persistant!
