Don’t feel like exercising? Keep on reading!

By admin | August 12, 2007

If you’re one of those lucky people who enjoy getting all sweaty and smelly, for at least 4 times per week, then you are lucky enough to skip this article. But if you’re among 80% of other mortals who don’t, then you’ve come to the right place.

Everyone knows the importance of exercising for overall health, but still… not all of us get off the couch and do something. Sentences like I’m starting tomorrow are part of denial and one of the reasons how we end up in this magical circle of obesity, depression and feeling ashamed of our psychical look.

If we think about exercising a lot, we get discouraged. That’s why new studies show that, in order to get out of this magical circle, we need to “just do it” and leave our brain no time to process it. If we think about this a little bit more, it actually has a lot of sense.

How many times in the past 6 months have you tried to convince yourself to put on your old sneakers and go to the gym or just get out and run for at least 20 minutes? Be honest! Once? No… Three times? No! Ten times. Yes, that’s right. Studies show that average person tries to actually do something for their body, but thinking too much about the actual exercise shuts off the will to stretch your body.

If you just jump into it without thinking a lot, there is a pretty good chance that you’ll keep doing what’s good for you and your body to stay in shape and be healthy. But, on the other hand, if you don’t ” just do it” you might talk yourself out of it. And that’s something you don’t want.

We all know our own excuses for not working out. It might be stress from our jobs, boredom, bad weather, great show on TV that we just can’t miss, making excuses about feeling tired… But, working out -3-5 times per week actually reduces stress level, helps with the overall health, and makes you feel good about yourself. Isn’t that something that you want?

Here are some tips to help you put some positive attitude about exercise:

1.                  Don’t think about the actual work out. Find your perfect time for doing something for your body and soul, put some sneakers on and get out of the house. If you’re not the running type, regular walking can be a great work-out routine. It doesn’t feel like exercising at all!

2.                  Try to think of every reason why not to exercise. When you end up thinking something like It’s too hard you’ll figure out yourself that all excuses are not worth it – walk around the block for 20 minutes every day while thinking about it!

3.                  Just sitting around is making you feel bad about yourself. Put only 20 minutes every other day into doing something for your body and you’ll get the point – feeling happy, secured and great about yourself. Now, compare that with the feeling you get when you sit in front of the TV with the bag of chips daydreaming you look like that cute model from the commercial. What feels better? And yes, again – BE HONEST!
