Calendula is good for…

Calendula is a very widely plant used on the skin to treat different conditions, such as burns, bee stings, sunburn, skin infections, some minor wounds. Studies were mostly done in laboratories and on animals. 

There are lot of uses that came from tradition and theories that were passed on from one generation to another. Some of those uses are : gastrointestinal tract disorders, gingivitis, gout, gum disease prevention, headache, heart disease, hemorrhoids, herpes simplex virus infections, HIV, immune system stimulant, indigestion, influenza, insomnia, irritant contact dermatitis, jaundice, liver cancer, liver dysfunction, menstrual period abnormalities, metabolic disorders, mouth and throat infections, muscle wasting, nausea, nervous system disorders, nosebleed, antiviral, anxiety, appetite stimulant, atherosclerosis (clogged arteries), athlete’s foot, bacterial infections, benign prostatic hypertrophy, bladder irritation, blood purification, blood vessel clots, bowel irritation, bruises, cholera, circulation problems, conjunctivitis, constipation, cough, cramps, diaper rash, dizziness, diuretic, eczema, edema, eye inflammation, fatigue, fever, frostbite, fungal infections, varicose veins, warts, yeast infections, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant.

 

Dosage vary, but is very common to use the combination of herbal product Oticon Otic, usually 5 drops three times a day.

Calendula is not recommended for children.

Aside from allergic reactions, few severe reactions have been found in published reports. In one small animal study, calendula was associated with a fatal reduction in blood glucose, accompanied by decreased serum lipids and protein. Skin (atopic dermatitis) and eye irritation have been reported.
Bride of the sun, bull flower, butterwort,  Caltha officinalis ,  Calendula arvensis  L., calendulae flos, calendula flower, summer’s bride, sun’s bride, water dragon, yolk of egg are some of the synonyms used.
